Honoring the Heroes We Lost: Ernest Elbert Bartolina Jr of North Dakota

 Vietnam War Stories: Veterans Day 2024: 


Today we honor Captain Ernest Bartolina Jr, of Bismarck North Dakota, who served as a helicopter pilot with the III Marine Amphibious Force, 1st MAW, Marine Aircraft Group 16, HMN 364. Ernest was fatally wounded on February 7, 1969 in the Quang Nam province of South Vietnam. On February 7, 1969 he was on the crew as Pilot of the CH-46D Sea Knight helicopter BU-153334 taking part in medevac mission in Guang Nam province, in an area known as "Arizona Territory." While starting to descend, they were hit by enemy fire. Ernest was 26 years old. He was honored with the Air Medal for his valor during his time of service.


Captain Bartolina is honored on the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Washington DC on Panel 33W, Line 75. He lies in rest at the West Lawn Cemetery in Henryetta Oklahoma. Lest We Forget.
