Vietnam War Stories: Honouring the Heroes We Lost: Kevin Frederick Brewer of Tasmania

 


Today we honour Private Kevin Frederick Brewer, of Launceston Tasmania, who served with the 4th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (4 RAR). Kevin was called up on 12 July, 1967 and left for Vietnam with the Battalion advance party in May 1968.

During Operation Track Duster in the Phuoc Tuy Province on 8th October 1968, 12 Platoon were checking signs indicating that an enemy camp was in the vicinity. A scout had found a bag of clothing close to a track and the platoon commander and the scouts moved a short distance to investigate. From a distance of thirty five metres, the enemy opened fire. Kevin and another soldier, Private Keith Shaw, were fatally wounded. 


Private Kevin Frederick Brewer was 22 years old at the time of his passing. He lies in rest at Ulverstone Cemetery in Tasmania. Lest We Forget.
